  • Aluminum Can Tabs Campaign

Here is an easy and fun way to help raise money for Hunter’s Hope. It takes very little time and effort! Next time, and every time, before you dispose of an aluminum can with a tab, wiggle off the tab and save it. For every pound of tabs collected, Hunter’s Hope will receive around $.35 or more from a local recycling factory. That might not seem like a lot, but those tabs can add up quickly! Get your friends, family, and coworkers to save tabs too! Ask your place of employment if you can place a collection container in the company lunchroom. Set a container up in your own kitchen. If your business would like to participate, we will send you a poster and information on Krabbe Disease and other Leukodystrophies for you to display near the container.

Another great place to collect tabs is at large gatherings, such as concerts, church or company picnics, etc. Ask local high school football teams and cheerleading squads or other youth groups to help you collect them as well. If you live in Western New York, you can drop your tabs off at the following locations:

Hunter’s Hope Office
6368 West Quaker Street (Rte. 20a) across form the Orchard Park Middle School
Orchard Park, NY 14127
There are 3 blue bins courtesy American Document Destruction Services available 24/7 at the back of our building

Mickel’s Nickel’s
80 Lake Street
LeRoy, NY 14482

As the program continues to grow, we will add additional drop-off locations. Please check our website and future newsletters.

Several WNY area schools have also started to collect the tabs as part of a community service project. We’d like to thank the Sweet Home School District, Villa Maria Institute of Music, and several others for their desire to help. If you’re interested , call or email our office for help in starting a program at your school or business.

If you live outside of the WNY area, you can still collect tabs. Just look up “aluminum” in the yellow pages. Call your nearest aluminum recycling company /scrap metal dealer to ask them if they accept tabs for recycling. Some states without a bottle deposit law only accept the whole aluminum can, and that’s OK. Just collect the cans, crush them, and take them in for recycling. When you drop them off, be sure to ask them to write the check out to Hunter’s Hope. If you have trouble finding a near-by recycling factory or drop-off location, call Hunter’s Hope and we will help you.

We hope you will join us with this fun way to heighten the awareness of these diseases and raise funds for a cure. Thanks so much for your help!

  • Hope and a Future Campaign

The “Hope and a Future” campaign is a national campaign, launched this September in Western NY. Our goal is to have businesses all across the United States participating in it by the end of 2004, and we hope you will help us accomplish this! The “Hope and a Future” campaign is a national fundraising campaign. The “Hope and a Future” campaign is similar, and yet very different, to many campaigns you have seen in businesses, grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores, etc. It is similar, because people donate to Hunter’s Hope by giving a dollar to write their name on a specially designed paper cutout. These signed paper cutouts are then hung on the walls for business employees and/or patrons to see. The Hunter’s Hope paper cutout is none other than our famous logo, which means to “light your heart with hope” - and that is just what each person does every time they give. The campaign is different, because each paper logo contains an information section about Krabbe Disease and its symptoms that can be torn off and given to the donor. Not only will the donor be helping our Foundation, they will walk away with the knowledge that can save the life of a child.

Another feature that makes the “Hope and a Future” campaign different from others is a special “challenge” for all businesses that participate. Contact our office for more information on this special incentive. If a business is unable to hang the paper logos at their business location, they can still participate by collecting donations with a Hunter's Hope donation can. Of course, a business is welcome to participate in both the paper logos and the donation cans. We ask those businesses that are interested in participating to choose one month out of the year to have the paper logos available to their customers.

We urge you to join this campaign and help us heighten the awareness of Krabbe Disease and other Leukodystrophies and raise funds for treatment and a cure. For more information, please contact the Hunter's Hope office at info@huntershope.org or call 1-877-984-HOPE.
