Q: What is Laps for Life?
A: Laps for Life is a fundraising program in which students collect
pledges for each “Lap” they run/walk physical education
class.
Q: How does Laps for Life work?
A: Teachers begin the program by educating students on Krabbe disease
and how students can help. Students talk to friends/family about the
disease and obtain pledges. During a designated Laps for Life week
of your choosing, students run/walk laps around the gym to earn pledges
during their scheduled gym period. Students then collect sponsor donations
and submit them to their Phys. Ed. teacher. Teachers then mail in all
donations by March 15th.
Q: What is the purpose of Laps for Life?
A: To promote education and awareness of Krabbe disease and universal
newborn screening. Also to raise money for myelin repair research (the
myelin layer is the part of the brain adversely affected by Krabbe
disease.
Q: Why would our school want to participate in Laps for Life?
A: Students will have the opportunity to “make a difference” in
the lives of sick children while staying physically fit! Each student
will receive a 2007 Laps For Life t-shirt. And the school with the
most money raised on average per student will get a special visit from
Hunter’s Dad, Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly!
Q: How do I schedule Laps for Life?
A: The timeline below indicates the suggested timeframe for completing
the steps of Laps for Life. Feel free to modify it to fit your individual
scheduling needs. However please note that in order to ensure that
your t-shirts get out to you in time, you must sign-up and provide
quantity/sizes by December 15th. In addition, student donations must
be returned to Hunter’s Hope no later than March 15th to determine
the winning school and schedule Jim’s visit.
