11/24/04 - PADDOCK CHEVROLET AND JIM KELLY TEAM UP TO GIVE AWAY A CHEVY SUPER SPORT ROADSTER

Chevy SSR
Thank you for all your support! Over $53,000 was raised for the Hunter James Kelly Research Institute.

Congratulations to our winner, Glenn Hall of Cattaraugus, NY!

Buffalo, NY - Jim Kelly, the former Buffalo Bill, and Duane Paddock, owner of Paddock Chevrolet, are teaming up to raise funds for the Hunter James Kelly Research Institute, a facility in partnership with the University at Buffalo.

Kelly and Paddock announced Paddock Chevrolet’s donation today of a 2004 Chevy SSR, valued at $45,000. The Hunter’s Hope Foundation is asking $20 per raffle ticket for a chance to win the truck from November 24th, 2004 to May 24th, 2005. Tickets are available at Paddock Chevrolet at 3232 Delaware Ave. in Kenmore and at the Hunter’s Hope office at 3859 N. Buffalo Rd. in Orchard Park. Those unable to reach either of these locations or those interested in having tickets available at their place of business, can call the Foundation at 716-667-1200.

The Foundation hopes to raise $50,000 from the raffle to help with the $5 million needed to establish the Hunter James Kelly Research Institute. The Institute, located in downtown Buffalo at the NYS Center for Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences at the University is scheduled to open in January 2006. The Institute’s research will focus on repairing myelin (brain and nerve tissue), a finding that would help not only children with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, the disease Kelly’s son, Hunter, suffers from, but will also help patients with Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, and other diseases in which there is white matter destruction of the brain and nervous system.

“We are so excited to have this incredible opportunity to be part of Buffalo’s amazing research collaboration among UB, Hauptman-Woodward, Roswell Park, and many other medical institutions in the area that make up the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. This is truly teamwork at its best,” Jim Kelly added, “A big thank you to Duane Paddock who has taken the lead in joining our team. We hope and pray that the rest of WNY will join us too. And together, we will save the lives of so many people.”

The 2004, sling-shot yellow Chevy SSR is one of only 7,000 made. Inspired by the late 1940 and 50’s, the truck has a rounded shape and sculpted bodylines. But make no mistake: the retractable hardtop and Vortec 5300 V8 Engine lets you know this is a modern design luxury.

Duane Paddock added, "Paddock Chevrolet is extremely proud to be partnering with Jim Kelly for such a great cause. It is my belief that a company is not what it gets from the community, but what it gives back. It is a privilege to donate this 2004 SSR to the health of our children."

Jim Kelly, established the Hunter’s Hope Foundation in 1997 along with his wife, Jill, after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, an inherited, fatal, nervous system disease. The Foundation is the Kelly’s life long commitment to increase public awareness of leukodystrophies as well as to increase the likelihood of early detection and treatment. Their ultimate goal is to raise money to fund research efforts to identify new treatments, therapies, and a cure for Krabbe and other leukodystrophies. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $3.8 million to leukodystrophy and related neurological disease research.
