Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., DVM, or equivalent degree. There are no restrictions as to age, race, religion, sex, creed, national origin or any other protected characteristic of an applicant. There are no restrictions as to the geographical location of the sponsoring institution or the residence of the applicant. There are no restrictions on the number of times an individual, including previously funded Fellows and Principal Investigators, may apply for a grant.

E. ELIGIBLE COST CATEGORIES FOR PROJECT BUDGETS, DEFINED
The following define the cost categories allowed in projects funded by Hunter's Hope. Please note that not every cost category defined here is applicable to all three types of research projects. Please refer to Section F, Description of Project Categories for the specific cost categories allowed for each type of project.

  • Salaries and fringe benefits for personnel, at rates commensurate with the prevailing rates of the Sponsoring Institution and the amounts of personnel time dedicated to the project. Fringe benefits are generally accepted to be medical insurance, life insurance, disability, retirement benefits, and similar benefits.
  • Project-related travel not exceeding $1,000 per any one year of funding.
  • Indirect costs to the sponsoring institution at a maximum rate of 10% of the total personnel costs (salary support plus fringe benefits) of the approved grant budget. Indirect costs should be calculated as inclusive of the total grant budget.
  • Supplies, including lab supplies, animal costs, and other direct project expenses.
  • Technical support, including costs associated with collaborations and other types of assistance necessary to the project.
HUNTER'S HOPE FOUNDATION does not provide funds for:
  • Capital development programs
  • Building construction or renovations
  • Computers or other general office equipment or furnishings
  • Other major equipment purchases. However, the Foundation may consider specific requests on an individual basis if equipment is considered vital to the project and cannot be obtained in any other way.

F. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT CATEGORIES
Grants are awarded in three project categories: Major Research Projects, Fellowships, and Pilot Research Projects. The maximum grant award, the term of the award, allowable cost categories, and PI qualifications vary from one type of grant to another. OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOVERNING HUNTER'S HOPE GRANT AWARDS

I. ACCEPTANCE OF AWARD
A grantee indicates acceptance of an award, and the terms and conditions outlined herein, by accepting and depositing funds disbursed by the Hunter's Hope Foundation. If a grantee cannot accept the award, including the legal obligation to perform in accordance with its provisions, it must notify the Hunter's Hope Foundation immediately upon receipt of the initial funds disbursement and this agreement. Any funds already disbursed must be returned to Hunter's Hope in full.

If a Hunter's Hope Foundation grant is not activated for any reason within six months of the commencement date of that grant, that grant will be terminated. Any funds already disbursed must be returned to Hunter's Hope in full.

J. FUNDS DISBURSEMENT POLICY AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

  • The first installment will be 10% of the total award upon receipt of the signed research agreement. Reimbursement for expenditures thereafter will be issued at two, four, or six months following the initial disbursement, contingent upon the timely receipt of reports and satisfactory project progress.
  • Required reports consist of two parts-a narrative progress report and a budget and expenditures report. Expenditure reports may be submitted and reimbursed at two-month intervals, but progress reports are due every six months. Grantees may use their own established accounting and record-keeping systems as long as those procedures produce accurate and complete documentation of program results and expenditures.
  • Principal Investigators are required to attend the Hunter's Hope Foundation Annual Scientific and Medical Symposium and present their work to the Foundation in both lay and scientific presentations.
  • The Hunter's Hope Foundation reserves the right to request, at our discretion, additional information related to the progress of the project or the project budget, or to schedule a site review of the project.
